As a speaker, you can never predict the emotions your speech might evoke in someone.
During my last speech at the Toastmasters International Speech Contest, I spoke about my passion for crocheting. Initially, I was worried that many wouldn't understand what crochet is, as it is less popular in India and often confused with knitting. However, I chose to stick with the topic as it is close to my heart.
After my speech at the Area-level contest, a fellow Toastmaster approached me, visibly emotional. He shared that his mother used to crochet and that he still treasures her beautiful creations and her stash of yarn and hooks. He even listed the items she had crocheted and the types of hooks and yarn she used. His story moved me deeply.
This incident forever changed my perspective on crocheting. I realized that crocheting is more than a hobby or therapy; it can create a lasting legacy through the beautiful creations we leave behind. I remembered a YouTuber named Melanie, who taught crochet with incredible passion before passing away too soon. However, her wonderful creations and her dedication to teaching remain immortal.
