Madras Toastmasters Club - AD Visit, 28th July 2024

Traveling 30 km from my house to my home club, I set out early on a Sunday morning, arriving an hour before the meeting. To my surprise, the entire Ex-Comm team was already present. Ribbons and club awards were neatly displayed, and the agenda was precisely written on the board. The club trio was busy coordinating with role players and speakers, and the Ex-Com members were dressed in blazers and formal attire. The president moved around the hall with a palpable sense of anxiety, ensuring the meeting would start and finish on time and with high quality. The VPE told me that for the past week, their sole focus had been on ensuring the quality of this meeting.

I was taken aback. Was this the same hall I had entered hesitantly in 2015, avoiding eye contact with people? Visiting my home club as the Area Director, nine years after joining, was a deeply emotional experience. During these years, the venue has been renovated, and the District's name and Division have changed, along with many Presidents, Area, Division, and District Directors. Yet, the club's warmth towards its guests and members remains unchanged. I can say that this place has transformed the lives and careers of hundreds of people.

The SAA took the stage a minute before the start time. The meeting began and concluded on time, featuring insightful prepared speeches and evaluations. The Table Topics segment was engaging, and the 'Moments of Truth' session reassured members that their voices were heard. The club trio and the Ex-Comm felt relieved after the meeting concluded. Overall, it was a high-quality meeting, and I felt like a special guest in my own club. 😊
