Looking for a fun, beginner-friendly crochet project? This crochet potato pattern is perfect for using up leftover acrylic yarn and creating a soft, squishy buddy you’ll love. Whether you're new to amigurumi or just need a quick project, this little potato is simple, sweet, and satisfying to make.

🥔 Crochet Potato Pattern (Amigurumi Style)

Skill level: Easy / Beginner

Yarn used: Acrylic yarn (beige, brown, black)

Hook size: 3.5 mm – 4 mm

Other supplies: Yarn needle, fiberfill stuffing, scissors, safety eyes or black yarn for embroidery

Pattern:

Start with a magic ring. For detailed steps on how to create a magic ring:-

  • Round 1: 6 sc in magic ring (6)

  • Round 2: inc in each stitch around (12)

  • Round 3: (sc, inc) around (18)

  • Round 4: (2 sc, inc) around (24)

  • Rounds 5–10: sc in each stitch around (24)

(You can add safety eyes between Rounds 6 and 7, about 5–6 stitches apart. Embroider a simple smile between the eyes.)

  • Round 11: (2 sc, dec) around (18)

  • Round 12: (sc, dec) around (12)

(Add stuffing now – I used soft fiberfill.)

  • Round 13: dec around (6)

Fasten off, weave in the tail, and close the top neatly.

For the eyes and nose, I used black yarn and made small, simple stitches — two straight stitches for the eyes and a tiny circle for the nose. It gave my potato a soft, handmade look that felt just right. To finish it off, I added a few strands of brown yarn on top for hair. Just a couple of quick loops and snips, and suddenly this little potato had its own quirky personality!

💬 My Crochet Notes

I used beige yarn for the body, brown for a few strands of hair, and black for the facial features. The result? A super cute little potato plushie that fits in my palm! I wasn’t sure whether to call it a “Positive Potato,” since I haven’t added a message tag or arms yet — but it still radiates that uplifting, handmade charm.

And honestly… even without a note, it made me smile.

A Little Inspiration

I’ve been watching the new K-drama The Potato Lab — it’s a chill, feel-good rom-com set in a potato research center (yep, you read that right 😄). The intro had these super cute 2D potatoes bouncing around, and I couldn’t get them out of my head. So naturally... I crocheted one! This tiny potato was born from that moment of inspiration and a bit of yarn fun.
