"The success of a business often depends on its ability to tell a compelling story that resonates with customers, investors, and employees." - Yuval Noah Harari.
Pre-Sales Colleagues
In my 15-year career in software engineering, I primarily worked in development, automation, and testing teams. Initially, I was unaware of the critical roles played by pre-sales, sales, marketing, and other teams that form the backbone of an organization. Later in my career, I had the chance to interact with pre-sales colleagues and was fascinated by their technical expertise, persuasion, and people skills. I realized that, when we grasp the bigger picture, we can truly understand the importance of the pre-sales and marketing team in an organization.
Organic Growth?
When I began my Android app development journey, I believed that creating high-quality apps meant that marketing was unnecessary and that growth would occur organically. However, I soon realized that even the best products remain unknown without dedicated marketing efforts.
The Trailer
I had high hopes for one of my educational apps uploaded to the Play Store a few months ago (Carnatic Ragas App). Although it performed fairly well, I felt it deserved more downloads. I put a lot of effort into designing visual aids to make understanding and visualization easier.
I decided to create a trailer video with an engaging pitch that highlights the visual aid narrative. Unbelievably, within a day of publishing the trailer, downloads increased dramatically!
I discovered that being a solo app developer requires the ability to shoulder the responsibilities of several teams including sales and marketing. Although it can be exhausting, it's undeniably enjoyable and a great learning experience. :)

The Narrative is the Hero
I realized that in an organization, while the delivery team plays a vital role in the business process, it is the pre-sales and marketing teams that craft the narrative around a product. This narrative can make or break a product. However, the absence of a narrative is even worse :)
